Several Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) staff members received an email threatening the property on the afternoon of September 22. Law enforcement responded around 2 p.m., and the terminal was fully evacuated about 30 minutes later, with the FAA advising the public to avoid the airport and surrounding area during the investigation. Roughly 55 passengers, 40 airline employees, and airport staff were safely evacuated while multiple local agencies searched the facility. The terminal was cleared and reopened by about 4 p.m., restoring normal operations within roughly two hours, and Pitkin County officials credited the response to strong coordination among local law enforcement and first responders.
