Earlier this month, the FAA directed the Centennial Airport (KAPA) tower to stop simultaneous departures from its parallel runways. The ban has effectively suspended routine touch-and-go operations. The FAA cited a safety assessment covering May 2025 through April 2026. That assessment found 60 departure-path deviations, including two verified near-midair collisions and nine other major safety events, and gave Centennial an initial “High-risk” determination. The Airport Authority says it received no advance notice or stakeholder input before the restrictions took effect. It has asked to take part in the FAA’s Safety Risk Management panel, which meets October 27–28 to consider mitigations. Some flight training has already moved to other Front Range airports, and no timeline has been given for restoring normal operations.
